These are going to be the couple of main realizations that I had this weekend.

Overall my mood during this whole weekend was definitely happier than before when I had my phone. Of course I still missed talking to my friends when I wanted to, but I didn’t have to worry about what I am missing and different reasons why people were not responding to my text or snap. I also didn’t have a chance to compare myself with what people were doing on their story and me feeling like I wasn’t productive. I believe that the weekend was a break from everything that has been going on throughout this pandemic, but also the consistent schedule that I have been having during the quarantine.

I have also noticed that it is pretty hard to avoid technology and screens altogether. First of all, everybody is on their screens now so it has become normal to be on your screen all the time. Also with family members using their phones and technology all the time it is difficult to not be tempted to use your phone or see what is happening on a screen. Our society is so focused on technology that it would be hard to avoid using it or not using technology in general, so I believe that we just need to balance how we use our technology and take some breaks from it throughout our day.

Now am I going to change my habits of using my phone in the future? I am definitely going to try my best to change my habits. I know that it is going to be hard in the beginning, but I want to start doing more activities instead of watching TV on my phone. For example, I want to listen to more music and read more paper books more instead of reading on my phone or watching TV. I am going to limit myself to how many hours I can use my phone and encourage myself to do more non-screen based activities.

I would recommend people to try this challenge and not use their phones or a short period of time. Even a day can change one’s mood and outlook on their phone. It is going to be hard to limit screen time, but I believe it is worth a chance so that we can all improve our mental and physical health.
